Noah Ortega Wiley Obituary, Lake Tahoe Cragging Accident Death: In Loving Memory Of A Beloved Soul

The climbing community and all who knew him are mourning the loss of 15-year-old Noah Sebastian Ortega Wiley, who tragically passed away on April 9, 2026, after a climbing accident at 90 Foot Wall in Lake Tahoe’s Emerald Bay. Wiley fell while toproping, and his family has confirmed that the fall resulted from user error, not gear failure or other external factors.

Wiley’s uncle, Miles Blakesley, described him as a disciplined and motivated young man who had recently found his passion for rock climbing. “He was really coming into himself,” Blakesley said, noting his nephew’s drive to learn everything about the sport. Wiley, who had spent the last several months climbing with his best friend, 16-year-old Josh Maldonado, was deeply committed to improving his skills. Together, the pair spent countless hours at the local climbing gym before venturing outdoors to 90 Foot Wall, where their bond was forged in shared adventures and challenges.

In addition to climbing, Wiley was an avid fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, a skilled baseball player, and a talented snowboarder. His love for the outdoors and his enthusiasm for life were unmatched. Blakesley remembered him as a “scrawny kid” who, through climbing and hard work, transformed into someone proud of his physical progress, always eager to take on bigger challenges.

Noah is survived by his mother, Dominique, stepfather, Matthew, younger half-brother, Silas, and a close-knit community of friends and family, including Maldonado and Blakesley. A GoFundMe page has been set up by his aunt, Christina Rome, to support his funeral and memorial services.

As the climbing world reflects on Noah’s passing, his legacy will be one of discipline, passion, and a deep love for the sport.
