Mall of Louisiana Violence: Two Groups Open Fire, 10 Wounded

At least 10 people were injured following a shooting inside the food court at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Police confirmed that the gunfire was the result of a dispute between two groups, which quickly escalated into an exchange of shots in a crowded public area.

Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse said the incident began as an argument inside the food court before escalating into violence. “Two groups argued inside the food court and started shooting at each other,” Morse said. “The situation quickly escalated, putting innocent bystanders in danger.”

Among the injured were several innocent shoppers who were caught in the crossfire. Police confirmed that at least 10 victims were taken to nearby hospitals, with some requiring surgery. While the majority of the injuries were not life-threatening, the violence has left the community shaken.

The large-scale police response quickly secured the area, with officers sweeping the mall for suspects. “Right now, there is no known threat to the public,” Chief Morse reassured. Authorities are continuing to search for suspects, but no arrests had been made at the time of the initial briefing.

Mayor Sid Edwards condemned the violence, vowing that the individuals responsible would be held accountable. “To the thugs that did this, we’re going to catch you,” Edwards said.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry also issued a statement, expressing concern for the victims and praising the swift response by law enforcement. “Sharon and I are praying for those affected and are grateful for a quick response by our law enforcement officials,” Landry said.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are reviewing witness statements and surveillance footage to identify those responsible for the shooting.
