Jonathan McFarland Obituary, St. Charles Parish, LA Death Missing Found Dead: Tragic Loss
A missing person case ended in tragedy after 45-year-old Jonathan Terrell McFarland of Collinston was found dead in a swampy area near Interstate 10 following a multi-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of April 19, 2026.
According to the Louisiana State Police and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, McFarland was involved in a crash near mile marker 220 around 1:30 a.m. After the collision, he left the scene on foot before authorities arrived. A search was launched when he could not be located, and his disappearance prompted a coordinated effort involving deputies and specialized marine units.
Authorities later discovered McFarland’s body approximately a quarter mile from the crash site in a swampy, difficult-to-access area near the I-10/I-310 split. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet determined an official cause of death, and an autopsy is pending at the Jefferson Parish Forensic Center.
Investigators are working to establish what led McFarland to leave the roadway and how he ended up in the marshland. The circumstances surrounding the crash itself, as well as whether impairment, injury, or disorientation played a role, remain under active investigation.
The crash occurred in a rural stretch of interstate bordered by swamp terrain, where limited visibility and unstable ground conditions can pose significant hazards, particularly at night. Authorities noted that McFarland was far from home and traveling through an unfamiliar area at the time of the incident.
The case has left both St. Charles Parish and McFarland’s hometown of Collinston in mourning. Family members are being notified as officials continue their investigation into the sequence of events that led to his death.
Louisiana State Police say additional details will be released once the autopsy and crash reconstruction reports are complete.
